Hi guy's,

Rebuilt my 2 tooth steering box with all new parts...even did needle brg
modification.....Had the steering balls replaced & install the teflon "kit". When I had to move the car to a safe place,,, I was shocked when it steered like a truck

I had a feeling something was going to be wrong as I screwed in the end plug's & could just get the cotter pins in...Then the drag link & tie rod are way too tight.

I read way back that when properly adj, you should be able to "twist" it(rod) with 2 hand's.Mines sure not like that !!

Any idea's whats wrong ?..

Thanks,,,

Are the spindles rubbing on the axle?
I've heard some of the new bearings are thinner than originals, so you may need to use a shim.

how did it steer before, disconnect the pitman arm and turn the steering wheel from lock to lock,ok?then it must be at the balls for the drag link and tie rod.

HI Tom,

I USED THE "T83" TIMKEN AT THE KING PINS THEN USED THE SHIMS TO GET A SNUG FIT MAYBE ..NEXT THING I Can do Is put the old original kit back in & try again Btw,,Thank's to all for the kind word's the other day

God Bless you guy's

P.S.Do you know what size the the steering ball's..I'll Have to check them when I PULL it apart

How does it turn if you jack the front end up?? Is the Teflon kit assembled correctly?? Did you put some grease in the Teflon kit?? Is there lubricant in the steering box??

Get a set of 0-1" micrometers; measure the thickness of the original bearing height; then measure the replacements. Add shims to compensate for the difference.

Les Andrews book covers this quite well.
