I bought a Harbor Freight gantry crane a few weeks back along with a 1 ton chain hoist and 1 ton electric wire rope hoist. I will share my whole experience and modifications IF y'all here on the barn would like??? Responses will dictate, I guess

Yes, by all means - share your experience. Even better, make a video explaining what you did. I made one a few years ago about the modifications I did to a Harbor Freight 20 ton press. I got a lot of positive feedback.

Love the winch idea. My next project on my 20 ton press. Thanks for sharing.

NO but I did include a little tip to help keep your hands for getting little cuts installing the casters!!

Ah yes, the Hazard Fraud, inventors of Tool Roulette, in which some products are truly superb value, while others are absolutely craptacular (I have examples of each).

While consistency of quality control may not be their strong suit, every now and again they hit it out of the park. Go figure.

Agreed, hence my reason for the post!!! To separate the wheat from the chaff

Totally agree. It's so odd.

I'd be interested. My experience with HF has been good enough for occasional use but not for your day job. I'll cite the Pittsburgh ****** jack I used to swap a 4L60e into my 80 vette which had a TH350 originally - apologies first for all that GM talk. Got the job done, but a little short on total lift requiring me to build a mini ramp for it to roll up on. And more critically, no way would I have trusted the included safety chain to keep that ****** on the jack.

I would never trust my health and safety to HF or other Chinesium; my jack stands (US Jack) are made by good old boys. There was a very good jack review on either Torque Test or Project Farm, can’t recall which, but results were surprising.

Chinesisum......Just about everything "bolted" together in this country and that you buy to hold stuff together is "Chinesisum" appox 80% at least, of the remaining 20% Taiwan, Korea, India etc etc.

Taiwan generally makes very high quality tools; those I have stand out. Have been eyeing a Precision Matthews mill…

Getting back to the topic, I look forward to seeing the gantry crane mods and updates

I used to peruse a forum (garage journal?) that had a long running thread dedicated to people’s experiences with HF products.

It was an interesting read.

They had HF fanboys and haters.
