grundy alert

It would be helpful if someone could put out the specifics on various insurance programs.
Mine is registered as a regular car, I drive it every day.

I have Hagerty also. Just received a email stating that they talked to someone and for the month of August you can drive with no restrictions. Very nice.

Here is the email:

Dear Michigan drivers,

Looking forward to the Woodward Dream Cruise, but worried about driving your classic because you have historic tags and don't want to get a ticket? We have great news: you can get out and enjoy your classic the entire month of August without having to worry.

The Historic Vehicle Association (HVA) worked with Sen. Mike Kowall to draft a bill that allows classic car owners to drive their cars with historic vehicle tags throughout the month of August without usage stipulations. The bill has been approved by the Senate and is expected to be signed into law by Gov. Rick Snyder. We consider this a victory, allowing you greater freedom to use and enjoy your cars during the month of August which coincides with the Woodward Dream Cruise and is also Michigan's designated Automotive Heritage month.

Hagerty would like to thank both the HVA and Sen. Kowall for their efforts on behalf of Michigan classic car owners. If you would like to thank Sen. Kowall you can email him at SenMKowall@senate.michigan.gov, mail him at P.O. Box 30036, Lansing, MI 48909-7536 or call (517)373-1758.

As Hagerty clients, you helped make this possible. Thanks for your business, for your support of the HVA and for your involvement in the hobby. Now get out and enjoy your classic!

This appears to be licensing permission from the state, relative to historic tags, rather than usage permission from the insurance company. Hagerty is just passing along the word to their insurance customers that the state's restrictions won't apply in August.

Re: Grundy Antique Auto Insurance Changes
hi folks! it is true that our collector auto policies, previously issued under "Grundy Worldwide" are now being handled by the insurance company Philadelphia Insurance--- which is the insurance company Grundy Insurance (an agent) used for those policies.

As BamaMav posted, there has been is an active "non-compete" in 48 states. In MA and SC, nothing has changed. Business as usual. We hope the non-compete reversed, rescinded or expired. In the meantime, we are not able to write collector-car-only policies. They must be written in conjunction with other vehicles.

If you want to take advantage of our new Motor Vehicle Program (MVP), where you can cover ALL your vehicles with Agreed Value coverage, please call us 800-338-4005. A new business representative can start a quote for you and/or answer any questions about the MVP. "We" haven't gone anywhere (Among the rest of the Grundy crew, Jim Grundy, Chuck Wasoski and I are all still in this office.... )

If you have any other questions (which I'm sure many of you do), please e-mail me becky@grundy.com and I will do my best to get the answers to your questions. At this time, the best way to get to me is by e-mail. (I will do my best to check back here frequently; however e-mail is best: becky@grundy.com. )

Read the fine print in your policy. Devil is in the details. This is from the Hagerty web site. The red highlight is mine.

"Usage
Hagerty provides coverage for collector vehicles that are used on a limited basis — e.g. club functions, exhibitions, organized meets, tours and limited pleasure driving.

Storage

Collector vehicles must be stored in an enclosed and secure structure when not in use. Qualifying storage locations include private residential garages, private pole buildings or barns and rental storage units."

This is pretty consistent with most other companies that sell antique policies. The issue is with what's regular and what's pleasure. If you go to Home Depot to get nails that can be considered regular and not ok. If you go for a pleasure drive and stop for nails that's incidental and is ok. Some companies have specific mileage limits that Haggerty and Grundy do not.

Read the fine print and adjust your purpose to match the accepted use.

So if I am to understand by using their fine print they could in effect pull the rug out from under you at any time they please rendering their insurance a complete waste of money? Then again I could say no matter what I was using the car for that day I was on one of my limited pleasure drives:rolleyes: But it seems they have the final say so what is the purpose of having them as your insurance company, its like rolling the dice because you don't know if they will pay or not.

In 2011 we drove from GA to AK (11,609 miles) and State Farm stood behind us strongly. My agent gave me a letter if needed for Canada and to assure I had full coverage during the entire trip.

That was all part of my standard coverage. I have a few friends that have had accidents and State Farm took good care of them.

My 31 coupe has a stated amound coverage and the rates are very reasonable. We drive anywhere we want and as often as we want.

Duffy 1,

To answer your question about a claim: I lost a original fan blade on my 30 Dlx Cp on a return trip to a outing, 125 miles from home. My AAA towing, on a flat bed AAA truck, covered the 1st 100 miles, the last 25 miles cost me $198.00. I had Grundy Insu., which was underwriten by Philidelphia Insurance Co.
On monday morning I telephoned and spoke to P.I.C., the lady advised my insurance would reimburse my out of pocket expense for towing. The lady then asked me what happened ? I told her when the fan blade broke it took out the radiator and damaged the passenger side of the hood; she then said my insurance would cover the damage to my A, she said she would refer the case to the adjuster and he would be calling me. A few hours later the adjuster called and advised me they would pay for a new radiator, pay the cost to repair and repaint the hood; the only thing that would not be covered was the cost of a new fan; he furthur said he would have another adjuster come to my home to review the damage, take pictures and estimate total cost of repair. Two hours later the adjuster called from Sacramento CA and advised he would arrive in Quincy, CA two days later around 10 AM.
I went ahead and removed the hood, headlight and bar, radiator shell and radiator .
The adjuster arrived at 11AM two days later, said it took him longer than he thought (1 hour off); he took pictures of the hood and radiator and made the comment " I see you do your own work, I assume when things are repaired you will do the reassembly, I said "Yes". They paid for a new Brassworks heavy duty radiator, I arranged to have the hood repaired locally. The adjuster allowed me $ for remove and replace. Approximately 8 days later I received a check from Philidelphia Insurance Co. in the amount of $2700.00.
I have 3 restored A's, I declaired the value on each A, there is no deductable, full coverage including un-insured motorist.
I renewed my policy on the 3 A's on 4/24/12 (on line) and the cost was $387.40 for 1 year.
The limit deductable is as follows:
Combined Single Limit (Per Accident) for Bodly Injury and Property Damage, $300,000
Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Bodily Injury and Property Damage, $ 35,000
Medical Expenses (Per Person Per Accident) $ 10,000
Spare Parts (Per Vehicle) $ 500
Towing and Labor (Per Vehicle) $ 250

I would not consider changing Insurance Companys. This was my first claim and you can not ask for better service. When you make a claim this is when you find out if you have a good insurance carrier.

a few years ago i had a shop fire after we were closed due to a ford cruise control switch recall that was not performed on a 1992 marquis. i had 15 cars in the shop including two of my buddys cars. one was a 30 tudor and the other a 70 olds 442 convertible. both of those cars had steam and smoke damage not actual burn but both were deemed totalled. the 30 tudor was a 7 on a scale of 1-10 on condition before the loss. grundy insured the tudor and my friend had an agreed value on it for 35,000. within a few days grundy's private appraiser came out and totaled it and they paid him the agreed value no questions asked. the 442 was insured by state farm along with his other personal vehicles with no agreed value. this car was worth an easy 50,000 but since he had no agreed numbers they paid him 10,000. boy did he learn a lesson on insurance.. i have my cars with grundy and would never switch. my bud with the tudor well we found a real nice one in ohio for 19,000 i would put it a 9 on the scale and the balance of the 35 left over i think he took his wife out to dinner...agreed value is very important no matter who your with and put it as high as you can. its still really cheap being antique insurance. \\\\

Hello to all you Ford fans!

About one year ago, Grundy’s collector car insurance company, Philadelphia Indemnity, took our Grundy Worldwide business from Grundy Insurance in Horsham and moved it to Philadelphia. They built a million dollar computerized system to handle administration tasks in an effort to make new policy transactions, renewals, and claim filings easier, faster, and more efficient. Things have not worked out as well as they hoped, and it quickly became apparent that it was a mistake to remove the human connection from providing collector car insurance to you. Now, Jim Grundy has again partnered with Philly to administer Grundy Worldwide by the car guys at Grundy Insurance. Jim is absolutely adamant about returning our service to the level of excellence you have known in the past. Indeed, we are all working towards that goal, and putting in a lot of extra hours to get the job done. I know I am.

We have taken these steps and more:
· Added 25 people to staff a new call center.
· Worked with Philadelphia Indemnity to modify their system to eliminate bottlenecks.
· Upgraded our phone system to channel calls to the proper departments faster.
· Revamped our system to get you your renewals on time. (To anyone who believes they have not gotten their renewal, the appearance of the mailer has changed, so you may have overlooked it. We strive to send renewals to policy holders 45 days in advance, so if you haven’t received your policy call customer service at 888-647-8639).

Now, regarding your coverage if you take your Ford to the store: A Grundy policy covers your collector vehicle for unlimited yearly mileage for pleasure driving, even the occasional trip to the store. We do not cover your collector vehicle for daily use such as commuting to work or other daily transportation requirements. However, you can participate in as many cruise nights & car shows as you want, go for as much ice cream as you want, take as many long pleasurable “Sunday drives” as you want, go on tours, visit the kids, even go on a special vacation with your car, even across our northern and southern borders! You are covered.

This forum is not the place to sell anything, but I would like to mention a new Grundy program to forum members that can combine all of your vehicles on one policy, with one premium and renewal, with uniform coverage for all, and all at agreed value. We call it our MVP program, which is underwritten by Chartis, one of the nation’s leading insurers. This is perfect for someone who might own a couple of collector cars, a pickup, a couple of daily drivers, and maybe even an RV or motorcycle. You can check it out online at Grundy.com, or call 866-338-4006.

I hope this has answered some questions, and put some concerns to rest. We have not gone anywhere, and our protection is first rate, bar none. We will resolve our service issues, and soon. If you have additional questions, please post them or email me at William@grundy.com and I will try to get you the answers as quickly as possible. Bill

Mr. Wiliam Hoffer, Director of Marketing, The Grundy Agency,

Thanks for this posted message -- I have noticed no changes, verbal or written to my policy with your company during the past six (6) years.

Your message is very understandable & most straight forward.

Hope this addresses concerns.
