The ****** is quiet in all gears but first and noisy as hell there. pulled it and looked inside. Problem is I dont know **** from shinola inside this ******.
Ive rebuilt may small atv trans but there were messed up royally so all i was doing there was replacing all wearing or worn parts.
Everything here except 1 gear looks good, so I dont know if its replace the one gear OR the one gear and all the bearings since i will be that far into it.

Here are 3 different pictures of three different places on the same gear, which is a 1st gear
Remember, its quiet except in 1st gear. Your thoughts?

That's your cluster gear, and it's shot. Chances are the 1st/reverse slider gear (meshes with the cluster gear's damaged teeth) is also in similar shape. Your reverse idler gear (seen in the corner of your pics) is also pretty rough looking. Bearings needed for sure after they've seen all the metal grindings from those gears.

What I am hearing is I need to have the entire thing gone through. Is this something a very mechanically inclined guy can do OR should I refer this to someone (if I can find someone local) that does this?

You can do it if you want to. Not hard but pay attention when you take it apart so you can get it back together. I've rebuilt several v8s as well as Model A transmissions.

NOS 1936-1947 Ford Lt Truck, 3/4 Ton Truck & 1 Ton Truck Cluster Gear and Main Drive Gear Set

Ford #67-7113-A and #67-7017

is this a correct part number for the cluster gear I need?

Bob C, until i looked at what that cluster gear cost I wasnt going to do it myself, but with the cost of that gear i cant afford to pay someone. Looks like it back to the books time for me. Heck it cant be any harder than a 5 speed atv trans

022A-7113-C cluster, 01A-7100 1st/rev slider, 81A-7102 2nd/3rd synchro, 68-7141 rev idler, 022A-7017 main drive gear, 51A-7061 main shaft should be the major components in your trans.

Try Mac VP, he's the man!

Van Pelts site doesn't distinguish between V8 or 6, just year. I better get a book, or two, or ..........

Although the 022A prefix implies the V8-60 part, it was also used in the 85-90 hp transmissions. My trans book will help you with the rebuild if you want to tackle the job yourself. We may have good used gears available if you want to save some money. Just call our sales office during the week...... Mac VP

Exactly what vehicle, year of manufacture, and transmission type are we talking about here, or did I miss something on this that was previously posted? If we know exactly what you have, it's possible that someone here may have some good used gears like you need at a very reasonable price.

Ed's car is a 1942 Ford 6 cylinder. Ed give Mac VanPelt a call. Very sharp guy and can get you steered in the right direction.

I'm gonna call VanPelts and get the book, and instructions and advice etc etc,

yes 1942deluxe is correct, 1942 Ford 226 G 6 cylinder 3 speed trans --- if anyone has GOOD cluster gear, i would def like to hear from them (also posted on wanted)

Second the vote for Mac and his book. Have never rebuilt a trans before. Just finished the one for my '47. Can't imagine trying it though without the book which is worth more than it costs. Also, Mac helped along the way with advice on the condition of my gears after I sent him pictures. And, he has all the parts I needed.

You can do this!!! Good luck!!

Dick.

buy the transmission book from Mac Van pelt. it is a good book, it has lots of info in it. also he can help you with the parts, he has good used parts and good quality new parts

@edhd58
In the interim, get a can of STP and pour it in the transmission and drive it till your ready to rebuild/fix it....it will quiet your 1st gear and shift smoother till then!!!!!
