Great Race Information

Wow! It IS complicated and interesting.

Our Model A club has scheduled a tour to see these vehicles when they stop at Barrie, Ontario.

The article on Joe's post is very accurate in it's description of antique car rallying. It is certainly a test of man and machine. If you are considering doing the Great Race I would highly encourage you to do one/some of the Regional Rallys first. The one held in Scotts Bluff, Nebraska for example is operated almost exactly like the cross-country Great Race. It will give you an opportunity to "get your feet wet" before jumping in on the "big" one. And the cost doesn't break the bank. If you are good at it you can win some/all your money back.
Having done several of them I can say it is a fun experience you will never forget. Go for it!

I agree with trying Regional Rallys before doing a larger rally like the Great Race.

This is the link for the Sugar Vally Rally in Scottsbluff which is ran the first weekend in June. http://www.sugarvalleyrally.com/
I think we are fast approaching their entry deadline but if you are interested, give them a call. It is a real fun rally to run, with different classes to run.

The Vintage Car Rally Group aslo has a web-site at http://vintagecarrally.com/, which has additional informtion and events.

Did you see the CO$T to e in the Great Race?? BIG MONEY!

Its a "big sport" too! Having been on several GreatRaces with my family, we have fond memories too. Dad & I even won Rookie Div on the IronHorse Rally in Ohio. It was worth every dime we spent. Granted it is not a cheap sport, ...and the entry fee is just the tip of the iceberg, but it is an experience of a lifetime!

If any 'barners in Northern OH or Western PA have Friday, June 29 free, consider making a trip to the Packard Museum in Warren, OH where the Great Race participants will overnighting with check-in at the Museum. The next day they are off to Mansfield, OH.

Several years ago I interviewed a participant in the Great Race that was driving a Model A. He had set up a test course near his house to practice and let me drive the route in his car. You really have to concentrate to keep the speed constant to make your time come out right.

On our Summer Tour we will be meeting the Great Race on their first lunch stop. Should be a great time.
