Great day for a drive

I love that photo! I have a set of N.O.S Model A tire chains in their origianal bag. I'm afraid to handle them. They have been on the shelf so long I dont want the bag to tear, LOL!!

Roger, No goggles but being near-sighted I wear specs, they help a lot. I've been out in the speedster in really cold weather, snow on the ground, etc. With multi layers of clothing and a crash helmet it is actually comfy.

I really like the photos of Gar's car with chains. Are these specially made up to fit, or can one get them fairly easily off-the shelf'? - I would love a set!

Richard: My chains were made for the car and purchased in the late fifties at a Western Auto store in Newburg, NY. One could also buy spare cross chains and repair links for the chains do wear quickly if you encounter any pavement. I do remember broken cross chains doing a job on the inside of the fenders. I am sure that is not something anyone would want to happen to a restored car.

I believe it would be fairly easy to buy a set of chains that are close - take a spare tire into the store - and modify them to fit the A wheel. In any case, it is an experience worth having fun with.

I remember an event a number of years ago where we had a very heavy snow on January 2nd. Before the plows cleared the back roads, I was out in our neighborhood blasting through drifts and, in general, having a great time leaving tracks in the deep snow.

A neighborhood gal called my wife to report having just seeing me out and about with the Model A. "Is Gar alright?" she asked................. Gar Williams

One time, several years ago, I drove my '29 roadster down to a friend's house in about 0* weather. When I went back home, about four hours later, the temperature had risen to 7*. I never heard so much clunking and clanking coming from that ole Ford. I was wondering if I had broken something. Anyway, when I pulled back into my heated garage, the whole dark blue roadster flashed with condensation and immediately frosted. I had a completely white Model "A" Ford roadster.
