Grease shock links?

I am not new to Model A’s but my new car but it’s my first time working with the OEM shocks. I find that when greasing the shock links it is impossible to get grease to the upper ball. I completely dis assembled one of the links and there is nothing wrong that I can see it’s just that the grease all wants to come out at the bottom and never go “up hill” to the top ball.

when i look at original drawings of those shocks the grease nipple is on the top (most of the time) but on the reproduction ones the nipple is always on the bottom. make no sense to me either.

the next time i do those links im gonna drill and tap for grease nipples for the top of the link. they will for sure get greased then.

i would put a thumb full of grease on the top ball before installing the plug.
