grease in the fan?

I have a 46 59a motor, not sure which fan. It's a 4 blade with the wide pulley, all lines up so that should be OK. There's a slight wobble in the fan when the belt isn't tight but I've run things looser. My question is grease. There's a small screw in the hub that is apparently for lubrication. Is this drip lubed with a fine oil (3 in 1 type) or can a nipple be screwed in so it can be greased?

It takes motor oil, turn it up, add couple/ three ounces oil, turn it down and excess will drop out, then put screw back.

OEM lube was motor oil same as engine but I think there was a service bulletin that calls for gear lube if there is a leaking problem. They can be a PITA to fill when the lube is viscous since it takes some time to fill to a point and then let the excess drip back out when serviced by the book. These can be disassembled and replacement parts are available to tighten a real loose one back up.

I was going to say look up how to do it it on VanPelt...
Lucus makes a oil in a quart bottle you use in h/d trailer axle hubs ...
Basicly a gear oil ...I took mine off the car and chucked it up in the vice ...painted it ,filled it per instructions ,drained it overnight for the right amount, put it back on the next day..Carl

Be careful when you drain the hub. I had a drop of oil get in to the distributor through the timing lock screw and it shorted the driver side points to ground. Took me a hour to find the problem.

While the fan blade decal says "motor" oil, the recommendation was later changed to transmission oil, but the decal was never changed. Be sure to leave the filler screw out after you fill the hub, then turn it so the hole faces down, and drain the excess before you replace the filler screw. This will set the oil level at the correct level in the hub. After I installed an alternator, I fabricated a ball bearing hub because the tightness of the belt caused two stock hubs to fail. No problems now 20 years later.

I had a pulley sheeve split in half on me from the belt too tight, hub internals were ok. Strangest thing.
