Barners,
For the first time I will be installing Graphtite head gaskets. Should I use my usual spray gasket adhesive?? I don't use Copper Spray on my aluminum heads, I use the red stuff from Loctite, at least on the steel gaskets I had been using. What's the best installation???
Thanx

Milt, I believe what you have are considered composite gaskets and graphite is one of the components. No additional adhesives are required but the mating surfaces must be clean to the degree a single edge razor blade will glide across the surface.

Copied this from the Best Gasket website:

GraphTite™ head gaskets have superb sealing characteristics, excellent torque retention, and hold up to the punishment dished out by high-performance engines – high quality all the way. This gasket might be overkill for cruiser engines, but so what . . extra performance never hurts!

Install GraphTite™ head gaskets using using a spray-on sealant like K & W Copper Coat or Permatex Copper Spray-A-Gasket. Always re-torque, no short-cuts.

I have used 3M 77 spray adhesive with good results and also aluminum paint with good results . The aluminum paint makes for easier cleanup if you take it apart again .

Barners,
Thanx to all who responded on the Graphtite installation. No clear winner on procedure. I think a quick call to Federal Mogul may be in order!!

You may never get the heads off again if you use the copper spray. It soaks in and makes the whole gasket a solid stuck on mess. I had to remove a head and it was terrible. I put the head back on with no sealer and it is fine.

I used Best gaskets graphite, and followed their instructions using spray adhesive.
No issues..although, I haven't had to remove the heads since either.

To all following this thread:
I called Best Gasket today and they recommended copper spray "OR" nothing at all. The guy I talked to seemed to lean more to using spray. I guess that is what I'll do. Thanx all.
