Got my parts!! Water pump packing etc....

So I finally received my order from Macs today. Nothing crazy but I got water pump packing to hopefully fix my leaky water pump! Some interior handles, and what I most excited about is all the pets to fix/hook up my choke rod etc. Since I got the car 2 weeks ago I haven't been able to adjust the choke. The biggest issue with he car is that it smokes pretty bad, while on or driving. Just out of the exhaust. I'm hoping that being able to adjust the choke will fix it, or at least make it better. My friends and wife's dad tend to think that is the problem, so we will see.... If that doesn't fix it I guess I'll be attempting to change the seals. I need to pull the head anyways as the gasket leaks a tiny bit...
Any advice in choke or should I just follow the basic how to's like when it was new. Everything is stock so technically the choke should be able to be used like it was originally used! Thank and I'll update when I see if the problem is fixed!
Also any tips on putting the new packing in the water pump! I've never done it but I figure it should be really straight forward and pretty easy. I have the "red book" by les Andrews, so I'll read that and proceed on step by step.

The Model A doesn't have valve seals, if that's the seals you meant as far as smoking out the exhaust.
Water pump seals need to be lead packing rings with grease smeared on them. Clean out all the old packing and install the two lead packing rings with grease on them. Tighten the brass nut lightly, then start the engine with antifreeze in it. After running a few minutes check the packing nut again. It only needs to be slightly snug to seal the coolant in.

Hey Tom. Cool thanks for the info. I ordered the 2 lead strips or rings and the freeze from "Macs" so I'll be doing that tomorrow or this weekend. Right now I believe it's just water in the radiator.... I could drain it and out coolant in it...... What does everyone think?

To adjust the choke pull it out to choke, and push in to run. To adjust the mixture valve in the cab turn clockwise to lean the mix. Some cars will run fine with it all the way closed, just don't reef it tightly closed. if it still runs too rich check the carb float to make sure it is not gas-logged.

Boy your autocorrect is out of control! :D BTW I hate autocorrect!

If the head gasket seeps a bit you should just add a tube of alumaseal stop leak. You might be surprised at all the demons you could awaken by pulling the head! Maybe check that the head is torqued evenly also.

Ha, good ole auto correct. I guess I should re-read my post before I post them so I don't sound like a complete idiot. But thanks for all the help. This weekend it is supposed to rain all weekend, (haha, I know in so cal it never rains. Even when the weather man predicts its, most the time he is completely wrong. Or it comes a few days early or late.) But Im hoping it does so I can get some much needed garage time with my new baby.
Ive had it for 2 weeks now and haven't really had the chance to touch it. Ive taken it out for 3 cruises, but that is about it. So for this weekend Im definitely going to re-pack the water pump. I received new packing from Macs, and water pump geese, so Im hoping this will cure my leak. Next is to attach my choke rod to my carb. It was missing the part or tube that connects the two, and Im really hoping after I get this connected Ill be able to adjust it correctly and my smoking issue while running or driving will be gone!
And then Im going to remove all the plugs, clean them, and check the torque on all the head bolts, and see if this stops the small leak. And I got a few fun parts that I will instal, like some interior door handles, radiator emblem, and a carb air cleaner. Ill post pics of my progress along the way! Im looking forward to it. The only problem is the Masters golf tournament is on. I need a TV in the garage asap!
