I done some research and got yes and no. Can I when I get the engine and car built use royal purple full synthetic oil with new modern seals made to fit the Flathead? Or is it a bad idea?

is your avatar something like what you are thinking of building??....what is it's running gear??...etc...etc...always good to find out what other people use, etc....i think most use regular oil, maybe rotella for the zinc.....nothing special for the good old flathead...Mike

What I'd like to have, I'm gonna try to find a 276 and get mild cam port/polish headers. 145 horse is what im going for, but I'm gonna use 4:05 gears with a tremec 5 speed.

FHM2 - With all due respect, the only ways you'll "find" a 276" CID flathead are 1) get a 255" Merc engine and bore it 1/8" or 2) get a 239" Ford engine (the most common), install a 4" Merc. crank and bore it 1/8". It's a lot of detail specific work but worth the effort. A lot of guys like a 258" engine - a 239 with the stock crank, bored 1/8". Getting the engine balanced will give you a much better running and longer lasting rig. FWIW

I will be using 5-20 sum in may next engine. I do this because it will cool the internal parts better, which is the cause of most ware. Might nor work, but we'll see.

Flathead man, you really are on the wrong forum. the HAMB is the forum for the hotrods. While there is certainly people here who know hotrods, this is the forum for the basically stock cars. The HAMB is owned by the same person who owns ford barn and it is the bottom link if you click on forums.
