Good Lookin Flatty

Hi Fellas,
Here is a picture and details of my mates Flatty. This was rebuilt early last year, and has now been fitted to a 36 2 door Slantback. I will post more pics of the build.

Looks very sharp, except for the alternator, I just cant get used to seeing those on flatties. Very detailed.

I would like to know more about the fan adapter to the alternator. Like where is it available, or did you make it?:)

Hope,

Flathead Alternator Pulley with Fan Mount - Speedway Motors
This pulley fits GM alternators and allows you to mount a vintage '32-'38 Ford fan to it. This Pulley uses 5/8" wide belt.
Specs

Pulley/Fan adapter is 1-3/16" Thick
Raised surface that pilots the fan is 2-1/8"
Bolt circle for mounting the fan is 4 on 3-1/8"
Holt Holes are 1/4"-28
0.665" I.D.

How does the alternator go bearing wise with the fan,the generators with the fan on had two tapered rollers to take the fan thrust.
As for a nice engine ,maybe Gavin the hotrodder can post a pic of his.

Good question, I was wondering about that too. Finally ended up going electric.

they should not make those things! I went on a maiden voyage in my friends 35 pick up with a fresh motor. their was a bad vibration about 45 to 50 mph. we though something was very wrong. drove back to his shop and I dropped the fan belt and the vibration went away. took off the fan and put the fan belt back on and everything is good. he is going to take off the alternator and put a generator back on

Ken I am going to use 12V generator field coils and a NOS 12V regulator. I have a 39, I think, generator and fan.

I have read that you can use a 6V generator for 12V without changing the fields.

Pete, what is the story on the harmonic balancer? I knew they were available for 8BAs but that is the first one I've seen on a 59A.

Regarding the alternator, when you get the engine in the '36, the radiator hoses should go up each side of it. That provides a bit of camouflage for it. Your pics have it out in the open and that maybe a contributing factor as to why the nay sayers are on your case.
