putting in a 1 wire alt. in my 64 ranchero i'm haveng a brain fart:confused: on what to do with the voltage reg. and wiring up a volt meter. thanks

From the the factory you would have wires on both sides of the voltage reg, just bring them to one side and match them up on the same spade on one side. Then everything that should be powered, and then just run a heavier gauge maybe a 10 ga from the alt to the battery.I'm not sure if thats the proper way to do it but thats how I ran my 57 wagon for years with no trouble when I had a one wire on my y bock.If you don't want the reg under the hood just match up the wires and connect them together and remove the reg completly.

As far as the voltmeter is concerned, just wire to any circuit (the ignition switch is preferred) that is powered when the ignition is turned on in the run position (accessory terminal on the switch).

It's better to use a heavier gauge cable from the alternator to the battery the same cable that is used on the Ford's solenoid is available at most parts houses in 4 gauge for under $5 since it already has the flat terminals it's an EZ bolt up to the + battery cable bolt. One other hint get an extra cable and run from the alternator bracket to the frame for a ground cable. You can remove the old regulator and it's related wiring to get rid of the underhood clutter.
