Glass setting tape

Looking for info on using glass setting tape to mount the glass in vent and quarter window frames. What is a good lubricant?

you need to ask the glass shop what they use, some tape is made to be used with motor oil, the oil lets the glass slide in the tape and channel, then the oil expands the tape to lock every thing together, dry install the glass with a short piece of the tape to see if it fits right, there are different thickness of tape, to thin and the tape wont hold, to thick and the glass wont go in the channel, i use regular paint thinner to set my glass, it makes the tape slippery so the glass will seat, and it melts the tape so it will stick to the window when it dries, but ask the tape manufactor or glass shop what they use

:) The local glass guy here talked me into using Duct tape instead of the setting tape as they stopped using the setting tape years ago . I of course took this with a grain of salt until I tried it and immediately found it to be WAY BETTER . It took 7 layers to get a nice snug fit and after seeing how hard it was to get apart { did an experiment with a cracked glass } I will not use setting tape again . If you use the black stuff it even looks good . Just clean the glass well and start building up the layers of tape { on the glass } and when done you trim all the excess off for a clean job . Do the tape one strip at a time as that is much easier than trying it stacked up before installation and you can check the fit as you go . He told me it can take 3 - 10 strips to get a tight fit . Not trying to tell anybody what to do but this trick really worked well :D I hate when you roll a window down and the track goes down but the window doesn't  That is my lasting memory of the setting tape they give you and it is a pain to use anyway . :D

Use mineral spirts:D it works better then soap. This is what a glass shop told me to use and it worked great. Your hands will turn black though:eek:
Good Luck
