glass sediment bowl screen

I have searched the forum but can't find much. What is the order of assembling the gasket and screen. I think the screen goes in the body, then the gasket and finally the glass bowl.

And there you have it. Two completely opposite solutions. This is why I asked. Could it be that there were two different size/diameter screens? The smaller one fitting in or on the edge of the glass bowl?

Hello, on mine the screen is on bottom as shown on diagram ,the screen is smaller than gasket to allow it to seal on glass bowl.

No screen in my sediment bowl. The heavy stuff settles out and falls to the bottom. That includes rust, water, and dirt. What would be light enough to not settle out and that require the screen?

Gary is correct. On the original glass bowl there is a recess for the brass screen to sit in. How many of you have seen an original brass screen? The original brass screen had a copper "ring" around both the outside of the screen and the inner hole, much like the sparkplug gasket. So much for the correctness of the reproduction screen, and how well it may work.

Just as an aside, the replacement body I received from Ecklers has a recess that is perfect to accept the replacement screen. I think I'll put screen first and see if it seals. Maybe there in no "correct " way?

to: "old ugly", you posted to make sure the screen was put in the right way. I am not allowed to PM you as I am a FNG here. If you read this, what is your way?

Why not do it the right way as in post #3? Body, gasket, screen, & glass.

I'd say that whatever way that squeezes the screen so that fuel can't get around it is the right way.

I guess Henry didn't read Les Andrews red book.
If it's to small the blueprint shows glass bowl, gasket, screen and housing.

Thank you for posting that. I can't quite read it, but with your explanation it is clear. As mentioned in a previous post, if any piece of gasket was to come lose it would still be filtered in this configuration.

"it does make more sense to have the gasket against the glass"
That is what I was thinking but was looking for those with more model A experience. Not sure that it really matters but, this is my first model A after pretty much a lifetime of model T's. I'm 77 so I better hurry and get it running.
