Getting Ready to Paint/Need Help!

I am restoring my grandfather's 1929 standard coupe and I am just finishing up the engine and will be ready to start on the body and wheels. I am trying to get a color scheme so I can get my rims painted so I will be completely done with the bottom half of the car. I have the original paint schemes for that year and body style but my wife hates them all and after all the money I have spent I feel like she has some leverage.
This has been literally keeping me up at night because I don't want to mess this up and have it look funny or be an outcast for not having original colors.
We would like to have the body an ivory or light yellow (old ivory, straw, tacoma cream), have the rims black as original, and arabian sand as the molding color (or something similar).
Any help from anyone who has a color scheme suggestion would be very helpful. I also need to see where everyone is purchasing good quality paint from. I have the mixing specs so I could get them mixed locally if that is better.

Be sure to mention to your wife that the car will be more valuable and easier to sell with the correct paint colors. I don't plan to sell any of my cars but in a real world plans change. Depending on the speed at which you work you might want to put off the wheels to last. That way the tires will be new when you get it on the road and you won't have to worry about nicks or overspray on the wheels. Have you been to any national meets where you and your wife can see a lot of finished cars in the original combinations?

Ryan,
Mine is a Straw 526 on the body or medium cream, wheels are the same color, fenders black and top and belt are Seal brown. It was painted 35 years ago and that's the way I got it. Everyone seems to love the colors.
It is just a driver but I admit good looking. The cream rims sets it off.

Just out of curiosity have you fitted up the fenders?

Fender must be fitted while on a frame with running boards that are properly located. Failure to do proper fitting can lead to a long frustrating process with trying to make finished parts fit without damaging final finish.

If you are trying to be original keep in mind very few cars ever came with color coordinated wheels. In all the factory photos for the slant window cabriolet they all had black wheels. To me it simplified the process cause picking and getting the right color is not easy.

Do you know what the original colors were? That might influence you (or your wife).

Original 1929 coupe colors:
Bonnie Gray w/Chelsea Blue belt, molding and reveals, Straw stripe
Vagabond Green w/Rock Moss green belt, molding and reveals, Straw stripe
Rose Beige w/Seal Brown belt, molding and reveals, Orange stripe
Andalusite Blue, Black belt and molding, Niagara Blue Lt. reveals, French Gray stripe
Black, Black belt, molding, and reveals, either French Gray or Medium Cream stripe

These are all pretty classy combinations. I would suggest you and your wife go to some meets, shows, or tours and seek out examples of these colors before you make a decision. Or solicit color photos from guys here who have painted their 29 coupe in original colors. Paint is a timely and expensive proposition, and you don't want to feel bad every time you look at your car.

The Rose Beige/seal brown combination is a popular one. I know the problem, I have 28 Sports Coupe and the colour combinations are really dark and drab.

Ryan-I'll PM a picture of a 1929 Fordor with Vagabond Green w/Rock Moss green belt, molding and reveals, Straw stripe. I have yet to met anyone-man, woman or child-who did not like the color combination.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I do really appreciate the help. It is nice to have support as this is my first Model A and I tend to feel a little overwhelmed most of the time. I do have the whole thing apart and will paint the body off the frame and then lift it into place. I am dry fitting everything and then removing for paint as I only want to do this once.
Thanks again.
