Getting Away with Murder

I know, I see the responsibility for public safety I bare as well. I shouldn't run stop signs etc. But damn, it's like I'm a congressman or something.

No appologies here. Just saying, more slack is given to the driver or these cars than a long-haired motorcycle rider and I enjoy that.

For the record:
Brakes, lights, horn, all working currently.
Ride the brakes for a while after crossing the creek.
And
Grandson still gets to stick his hands out the windshield, and his head out the window when we drive down our street, and sit on my lap and "drive" when he wants.
California stops are still cool in my book.

Still have tons or resect for those who are more careful. I may be like you when I grow up.

Paul, I sure as hell have insuranmce. It is the fact that it is forced. How many have heard of someone being harmed by an uninsured original model A reckless driver. I find the main reason for insuring the model A , besides being forced , is fire, damn drunks and fast moveing traffic. I've never had an accident in a model A or any other vehicle.

What amazes me is more than one person has posted here admitting that they actually feel they are better than others and cut across lawn or private parking lots to go around lines of traffic where other people patiently wait their turn.

Really? Do you honestly think you should have the right to go before someone else who has waited longer for the same thing?

Does anybody here think these guys are just trying to ruffle some feathers?..............
Ignore it and it will go away.

I think that as antique automobile operators we are in a unique position to be polite and considerate of all the other traffic that we meet while out enjoying our Model A's. Almost all eyes are on us as we seem to draw lots of attention; therefore I try to be that much more careful and considerate of other traffic including pedestrians and bicycles. I would like to be thought of as the polite driver of the Antique Automobile who stopped while a pedestrian crossed the street.
Just Because You Can Doesn't Mean You Should. But hey, YOU do what you have to!

Mr. Tube, I didn't say that I cut across someones lawn. I cut across shopping center and bank parking lots so as to get ahead of a long line so that I could make a right turn , if no traffic was approaching. I'm that one person and I sure as HELL didn't say lawns. I am better than people with ****** attitude like you!!!!!!!

1928Pickuppain said he has cut across grass to go around lines of traffic.

You cut across a privately owned parking lot and you most certainly are not better than me. There is absolutely nothing wrong with my attitude.

What I said was accurate.

Interesting posts. safety for all on the road first. If the officer pulls you over for probable cause and finds you have violated a law, then you are responsible for your infraction. Safety and responsibility is priority one when driving any vehicle, land, water or air. Be example setters for all on the road in your precious A's.

I'll assume Brobrian is either kidding or grossly exaggerating just for fun. If not, he's a scofflaw jerk and no credit to the hobby. Just like a congressman is right.

Relax all-----I'm NOT gonna' get in THIS one!! Bill W.

Cummon Bill, I think this is one you *should* chime in on. :D And besides, I wanted to say that I think this guy is just trying to troll, so please, stop feeding him, he's already gotten a rise out of a bunch of you which I'm sure is exactly what he wanted to do.

Easy Boys.
Let's stay on topic here and refrain from being more rude on line than we are on the road.

All that's being said here, for the third time, is that over the past 23 years and 45 thousand miles of driving, I've found other motorists, and cops to be more tolerant of infractions of traffic laws and norms while driving a Model A than while operating other vehicles (in my case a loud-*** motorcycle).

If you've never broken a law, had a light wink out, failed to stop due to wet brakes, been the slowest car on the road or failed to signal properly, then you've never experienced this extra tolerance. People like to see the old cars, they understand that things go wrong and are somewhat less likely to flip you off for some tresspass or other. GET IT?

In any case, if you want to spin this off into spiteful invectives against people who aggriaate your pet peeves. By all means, let's hear that too. I just wanted to know if some of you experienced what I do.

No, I was no ANGEL, but strangely I always remembered Chief's crude wisdom statement, "There's no such a thing as a car accident, they are purposedents, (DENTS! HO-HO!) either you or the other jerk had a car that wasn't worth a s**t, or one of you was driving like s**t!" Bill W.

I think that this thread has strayed far from it's original purpose. I think that if anybody who owns an old car at one point in time has subconsciously thought "well I'm in a Model A, they won't care". A very common thing i've noticed on tours is that a lot of model a people think simple traffic laws don't apply. If nobody is coming, Model A's will roll the stop sign and try to get as many A's across the intersection before someone is coming. Or we will let cars pass in a "no pass zone". I think these are more along the line of what the original post was talking about, maybe I'm wrong. Perhaps the most common thing that I do is, I take the Model A to my grandma's assisted living so that she can see the cars that she and my grandpa spent their whole marriage around. When I take it to the assisted living, I park in the "fire zone- no parking" area near the front door. This is so all the assisted living patients can get a close look at the car and everyone can enjoy it. Haven't heard a complaint about where I park it yet.

Brakes are pretty important but what is a horn for? i can only think of 2 situations where i would need one & hope neither ever happen.

Not to mention the ahooga horn isn't intimidating at all. No one In modern cars takes it seriously.

You ought to hear the "horn" on my 2011 Ranger. The only redeeming value it has is it gets people laughing when I use it. Thinking of replacing it with a good Model A horn and dropping resistor but I can't find room in the engine compartment to mount it...
