Hi,
i have several generators that i weould someone to identify.

The samping on them are:

Ford y-1
ford c-1
ford c-12
ford q-c1

some have a thick aluminum end on the bendix end
some have thin aluminum ends on the brush end
some have steel ends
and mixtures of steel, and aluminum.

Which are correct for a 41. Thank you.

Ok al, start all over!

First off i ment starter, not generator

no wonder one can't find the bendix on a generator

the "ford" stampings on the frame next to the numbers,

v-1 c-1 c-12 q-c1 to me, they look like model numbers

all of the information is correct (i hope)

i apologies for the confusion.

The starter for a 41 will seem like it is "faling apart" until it is bolted in, the 2 bolts that hold it together will also mount it the the pan ---I think that some starters after the flathead era had an oval plate that had "ford" and sdome other markings, but most flathead starters had few if any markings ---rebuilders would add their markings and codes.
If you want the starters you have IDed you will have a better chance with pictures, we know by shape, not by #.

Other than odd ball starters for later Mer-O Matic/Ford-O-Matic transmissions and 6-cylinder engines, the V8 starters are nearly all interchangeable. The early type had the heavier aluminum bearing housing and later ones had a thin bearing housing. Brush plates for 21A & later are all the same.

Regarding the date codes V-1 is Jan of 1941. the front plate for 41 should be the thick style about 1" and the rear plate for the brushes has 8 reinforcement ribs on the outside.
