That will be for sound suppression to prevent interference for the radio. On the end of the cylinder will (should) be I.D. Stamping.

I'm cleaning up a good 56' working generator with some fresh paint. I have it apart and see brushes are in good shape. I have a bearing/bushing set I can replace since I have it apart.

Looking at the rear bronze bushing, what is the best way to remove it?

Also, how does this bushing lubricate? I see a spring loaded oiler ball on back plate?? When I took apart, it appeared to have dirty grease as a lubrication or do I lubricate with some light weight oil periodically through the oiler port?
