Hey all,
So my '52 f-1's generator is all screwed up... it's charging capabilities are unknown to me as of yet because I disconnected it once it started emitting smoke and smelling like burnt rubber.
1) The truck was converted to 12-volt before I acquired it, but is it possible that my generator is (or WAS) fine, and was overloaded because it is (was) still wound for a 6-volt system?
2) Has anyone here rebuilt one themselves? I'm interested in doing it, but I'm still in the 'research' stages of this little job and don't really know what kind of trouble I'm asking for just yet.
Anyone have any tips...? pointers...?
Should I do it myself or have it done...?
My instincts are telling me to dive and learn something in the process,
... and my brain is telling me I don't know what I'm getting into.
