Generator Question

I read in one of my flathead Ford books that if you have paint on the part of the generator that slides up and down on the intake manifold that this will cause low generator output. Why would this manner? Should I sand off both surfaces to bare metal?

prior to 1941 the generator received it's ground circuit from the mount to the intake manifold, in 41 a ground terminal was added to the body of the generator to accept a ground wire. It is a good practice to have a metal to metal contact on the generator mounting post to the intake manifold, for proper generator operation, since the generator will not operate without a ground path.

The slides in the intake manifold need to be cleaned also and the surface where the nut and washer hit the front of the slot in the generator mount. I have put a ground wire to one of the intake manifold bolts on some. G.M.

ATTN: GM, What do I need to do to run a ground wire for my generator? How does it hook up? I think it might be a good idea to do it.

Use one of the through bolts, if you don't have the ground connection on the left side of the housing... Karl
