The guys can correct me if I am wrong but the terminal post on the pulley end says its 29 thru early 30. Oiler on the side of the bushing housing says early 30 (31 didn't have a removable oil wick). I'd guess early 30!

Early '30

I just rebuilt an early '30 generator. Looks just like this one, with post at front, no holes in the end plate and wick oiler.

In looking at the side view of your generator, my attention was drawn to the band. It looks like there might be some numbers and/or letters on the band. I am looking at the center of the band in the center of the picture. If they are there, they can tell you the month and year of manufacture. Of course, the band could have been switch over the years.

'12J' is December 1929. If you find it - post it. Someone will know; That's how I learned about my number. Bill

Thanks Bill in SoCal,

The numbers/letter on the band are 10J, does anyone know the meaning of this marking to ID this generator?

10 is OCTOBER and J is 1929. The generator pictured was only made a month or two during the switch from rear bearing to rear bushing. Basically the terminal at the front and the rear ball bearing ended during March 1930, with a little bit of combination as your generator shows. The screw on the band should face out, as in aligned with the pole screw shown in your picture.

Look the generator case and end plate over carefully. Some had tabs for alignment and some had pins. Sometimes people have pulled the pins or hammered the tabs flat to make parts fit where they weren't meant to fit.
