I believe the "F" indicates RHD. UK and Sweden were the only European RHD countrys at that time.

The Op is in New Zealand, so it makes sense that the transmission is there also. New Zealand got Fords in breakdown crates from Canada, the F then could mean Foreign, if produced in the US for Canada. Long way around to get there, but that's my guess.

Where did the “54” number designate being v8/60 ? 37-39 used 52 prefix and 92 prefix designated 1940 v8/60.

Yes I know he is in NZ as well as the trans.In this thread it is clear that F designates RHD,Not Foreign.Post # 20 by David G

It's pretty much common knowledge, but you can double check at Van Pelt's website : http://www.vanpeltsales.com/FH_web/flathead_serialnumbers.htm.

The model year designators can be confusing, e.g. 1938 is 922A.

Yes the “54” designate the year and that it’s v8/60 as I understand. “52” prefix for 37-39 series of v8/60 is what I have found most venders and builders use. All very interesting. Thanks.
