gear shift tube pin

I'm in the process of removing my steering box on my 47 ford coupe. In this process, I have to remove the gear shift tube pin to remove the lower gear shift levers. I cannot locate any type ofpin in the vicinity of the levers. Anyone know where this pin might be ?

There are two sheet metal parts. The top one has a shield that keeps the pin from falling out. It is loose in the shift rod and is pulled up or down to ingage the levers.

OK you've lost me. Is the pin located in the vicinity of the lower shift levers or is it on top of the steering column ?

Yes. the levers have half circles cut into the bases. The pin nests in the circles and moves from lever to lever to shift. The pin is crossways in the tube coming from the top of the column.
Just start removing the stuff at the bottom of the shift assy and it will make sense.
I think I was wrong before. The thing that retains the pin is a tube extension on one of the levers. The top one?
