gear shift trick

When I bought my first A in 1956, it had a cut off shift lever which made riding three in the coupe front seat easier. We would swing the lever out of the way so the middle guy could get his feet located then pop it back into normal position. Reaching between his legs to shift was a little awkward so I would clutch and he would shift. Worked great. Of course, teenagers in those days were a lot skinnier and a bit smaller as I remember.

I always thought that these cars just shrunk from being left out in the rain for 80+ years.
Had to be something like that. I mean we use to get 4 of us in the cab of my AA 280A .
