gear oil volumes

between les andrew's book and the brattons catalog there is conflicting values. can anyone tell me the correct volumes of oil in the rear end and transmission please?

it doesnt really matter how much they hold, just fill them till the gear oil runs out the fill hole
 
i gotcha. i was pouring mine in the top of the trans with the shifter still off. so les A. said 1 and half pint in trans, and 2 1/4 for rear?
