Gear drive starter

I had another thread on using a gear drive starter on a stock flywheel; which was answered.

The gear drive starter that I have doesn't seem to work, where is the best place to buy another one?

I wired it a couple of different ways, and no bueno.

My Model A is 12v, with a starter button. The starter that I have was used, so, it might be bad, I'll get it tested. The starter has a power terminal and supposedly a solenoid plug. I wired the button to the solenoid and nothing. I then added a old Ford solenoid to the starter and wired it, on side going to the starter, power coming in on the other then the starter button going to the "S" terminal; which is the way it was wired with the stock starter.

the gear drive starter needs power to the solenoid.
a ford starter button from the 40s makes a ground.
look and see if the wire makes power when pushing the button or look and see if it has 2 wires (one for battery power and one to starter— should make modern starter work)
or one wire for original 40s ford solenoid ( modern starter no work with this type)

if you take a piece of wire and jump from the battery terminal on the starter to the solenoid the starter should energize if the heavy wires, battery and grounding is good.—- essential that is all a place is good to do to test starter

It took me a while to understand that the stock starter button didn't provide power to the solenoid. Thanks for the reply.
