Gav

Steve, Exactly what I was looking for. I have the big Model A Service manual, but it really does not explain it (to me, anyway), like the link you sent. Thanks, Marv

On setting the GAV, Chiefs' system was: "With a warm engine, run at a CONSTANT speed of 20 to 25 MPH in second gear & adjust your GAV for the BEST, SMOOTHEST RUNNING"
And IF your GAV setting affects your idle, YOUR IDLE SPEED IS TOO FAST!

Another helpful thing about the GAV:

One turn is good to begin with for cold starts.

If you start the engine and it dies in 1 or 2 seconds.

Open the GAV some more (counter clockwise) Like if temperature is below freezing.

Close GAV as it warms up.

Normal position after warm up is a 1/4 turn off the seat.

Be gentle when closing GAV it is a brass needle and early ones have a brass seat also ... it is easy to damage these parts.
