GAV rod

Has anyone had a problem with GAV slowly moving open after driving the. There is no firewall grommet, I thought was supposed to be there, they never were from the factory. Maybe the one under the gas tank should be replaced to keep a little tension on the rod. Any thoughts on this will be appreciated.

I would be looking at the carburetor, possibly the ring on the adjustment needle
housing is to loose.

Check to make sure that the screw-on GAV knob is tight on the GAV/choke rod. I have seen them loose and it is the knob that is moving, not the GAV rod itself.

Mine will walk open some times. I think the top most grommet is worn, you should also have a rubber bushing/grommet in the engine compartment side where the rod goes thru the firewall. I stick a tooth pick in it occasionally.

To "goodoldvic" there was no rubber bushing where the choke rod passed thru the firewall. There was a leather washer against the firewall on the engine side, with a cup shaped metal washer against the leather washer. The tension from the choke rod spring held them in place. The rubber grommet sold by some vendors is an aftermarket item.
