GAV knob

This is one of those things where you feel stupid later when you realize what you've overlooked...

My GAV knob would just vibrate all over the place... I could never set it, plus it didn't seem to make any difference anyway.

I attempted to tighten things up a bit by compressing the snap ring around the needle valve.

Yesterday, while I was doing something else, I gave the GAV shaft a twist and noted how hard it was to turn... then I twisted the GAV knob... and it turned easy as can be... and didn't move the shaft.

How could I have been so stupid... the dang GAV knob was just turning on its threads... a little tightening of the knob to the shaft and ta-da! the GAV actually does something...

of all the stupid things...

I think we have all done something like that. It comes with being human. You are one of the few that would admit it.[smiley face]

The reproduction choke rods have threaded knobs . Some Loctite or JB weld on the threads will solve the problem.

I had a similar experience recently. My car had been running rich. I thought I had this adjusted properly. I got out my Les Andrews book and did exactly what he said. I had my GAV 1/4 turn too far to the left. It made a big difference. I felt kinda stupid, too.

Yeah, the point of this post was simply to ID the issue. I'd looked up GAV stuff previously and most of the advice suggesting making that spring clip tighter.... no one suggested that the knob might not be tight on its threads... so, now if someone searches for GAV stuff, they might see this suggestion.
