I use the tail light wire (black wire) going back to the tail lights. You can dig around for it in the loom along the frame next to the battery. It will have the green stop light wire running next to it.

I like the instruments to be lighted when I am driving day or night. I have the modern ignition switch and wired the instrument lights to the accessory terminal. The accessory terminal is on in the accessory or ignition positions of the switch.

I wired my gauge to the taillight circuit as Jim mentioned above. Works just fine.

There is an unused terminal inside the light switch - it is right next to the tail light terminal. Both wiring harnesses I’ve bought in the past couple of years have had this unused terminal available.

I have installed two temperature gauges and have run the wire from the gauge inside the switch to connect to this terminal.
