Gauge question

I'll be taking all those fittings loose in changing to the mechanical unit, and getting the right sending sending unit for the dash gauge, and will certainly look to be sure one of those fittings has the restricter in it. It's .060 for these motors correct?

I agree with Old Henry, it looks like the sender is not the right one. From the picture it looks like you are missing the restrictor for the oil filter. If the restrictor is missing it will rob oil from getting to the rest of the engine. The restrictor is a fitting with a .060 hole in it to slow the amount oil going to the filter and forcing more oil to the engine.

Would you happen to have any resources for that restrictor? It doesn't have to be OEM since I'm not going for show stock on my 53, but would like to find one that will go right in without a lot of adapters etc. I had thought about making a restricting washer with an .060 id hole to just install into an exsisting fitting, but if I can just find the right fitting with the right orifice to begin with, it would be easier than making an insert.

There was a lot of discussion about this a while back. You might want to do a search on it. This is what I had saved from from one of the post.

"Here are pictures of the stock Ford oil inlet restrictor fitting. The hole is 1/16" .0625."

Ditto, UNLESS the tee at the sender has an orifice in its outlet; some trucks used such a fitting. That doesn't look like them, tho. But the filter has a restriction at the center tube, I doubt it will make a big difference in indicated or real pressure. A new correct sender will.

Here's a source for the restrictor:

I can't seem to find a 1/4 NPT restrictor fitting, so I am just going to make one using a 1/8" NPT and a 1/4" fitting. Just need to pick up a 1/4-1/8 adapter, and just make one with the 3 pieces.
