Gasoline Resistent Paint?

I'm cleaning up an original gas gauge face plate (the black face plate with the white index line visible behind the glass). I have been told acrylic laquer is gasoline proof and could be used to restore the face plate. Is this true? Are there better alternatives? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
Regards,
Don

The face plate should first be nickel plated. Mask the line and paint the plate with fuelproof model airplane paint. The line is actually nickel, not white.

I have been successful using PPG's satin black epoxy DP-90 for painting carbs. I would not hesitate to use it on the face plate.

The model airplane paint is much cheaper than the PPG epoxy and can be purchased in small qualities if you are only going to paint a faceplate.

That fuel proof paint is the same paint (cellulose acetate butyrate) used in recovering full scale airplanes and can be purchased in quarts from www.aircraftspruce.com

I have used plain old Rustoleum for my carbs without trouble. It's shinier than original, but it seems to stick. Might be OK for your use as well.

The face plate does not belong behind the glass. I just paint the plate black and use 1/16 white pin stripe tape for the line.

As mentioned, the plate should never see gas. I wire wheel the old black paint off, then cut a thin piece of celephane tape and lay it exactly in center and exactly horizontal, then spray paint the plate with satin black laquer from Plasticoat.

If I have to paint the inisde dial I use AeroGloss JET BLACK 63.

At French Lick A+L Parts was selling paint in a spray can for gas resistent...Had a part painted in a glass jar filled with gas for 2 weeks and still no problem...
