Gaslight Front Fenders 1930-31

I hear that there is a problem with the fit to the apron and sort of remembering that the dies are worn out from making so many?? Is that true?? If so were the fenders that made say 10 years ago fit??

Also is the post from Brent Terry on the repair of this section lost forever or??

Thanks in advance, Bill

I fitted a new pair to a 31 sedan a couple of years ago and it took a couple of hours apiece to fit them properly but it worked out ok with no cutting. After mounting securely I worked the outer edges in line with a 2x4 and a hammer. Sure beats trying to salvage old rusted and broken ones.

10 years ago our club bought a pair for the 1930 Coupe they restored for the MN highway patrol. They didn't fit right either and needed the same repair.

I've put lots of these fenders on and it's always the same. The fit along the apron is not good. There is usually about 1/2" gap. Sometimes you can ease it into place with tha block of wood and a hammer as mentioned, but I usually cut the seem and add a piece into the gap.

3 or 4 hours work and your good as new. And you have agood soild fender.
