Gas Tank Vent - '30 Model A

Can anyone tell me,..is there a vent somewhere on the fuel ( cowl ) tank of a 1930 Model A Ford,..or is there a Vented gas cap available ??.

I am looking at installing a fuel pump,..and I don't want to cause an implosion. I have seen first hand what that can do to a motorcycle gas tank. Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

You don't need a pump. If gravity isn't supplying enough fuel, you probably have clogged fittings, shutoff valve, sediment bowl, lines, etc. Gravity (and a vented gas cap) should be all you need for a Zenith carb.

Just why a fuel pump anyway? I would be interested to know your reasoning!

That is if you would like to share it with us.

Thanks.

Take a look at the underside of your gas cap. Many of the repos in service have a single rivet in the center of the cap. Next to the rivet you should see a hole about 1\16" in diameter. This is the vent hole. However, the vent hole has to go through three obects that are part of the cap assembly. Very often the act of twisting the cap on and off the tank boss causes these three parts to rotate out of position and the vent hole will be blocked off. I have seen it happen a number of times.

You can modify the cap by drilling an additional hole on the opposte side (being careful not to go through the roof of the cap). Thread the hole for a 6-32 screw and install with lock-tight. This will prevent the three parts from rotating out of position.

You can buy an Eaton style gas cap from Snyder that has two rivets to prevent any rotation.

Thank You very much gents for your quick response to my question. I should have mentioned,..my '30 2 Dr. Coach has a 302 Ford engine,..w/ a 600 Edelbrock Carb. The gas cap that is on the tank now, is original 1930,...I will order up a new cap, as this one may have got clogged up somewhere over the years. I have seen a couple Honda 750 Shadow Ace gas tanks ruined by implosions, from a plugged Vent Hose,...My "A" tank is mint and I don't want to be changing it.

Thank You All again for the information.
