I have a 47 super deluxe that had set for 40 years and the tank is rusted I want to clean and seal it. What brand of sealers have you guys used and what are the pros and cons?
Thanks for any info you have.

I've used a product called Red Koat (I think that is the correct spelling) it is impervious the "corn" gas and has held up nicely (for many years) in several of our cars.

If you use the POR follow directions for drying the tank before sealing. If it isn't totally dry, it will peel.

I have used POR 15 on three tanks with satisfactory results. Ditto to what Jim 1932 said.

Another vote for the POR 15 kit. I've used it on 3 tanks with good results.

Plan on taking a full day to do the tank right. To dry the tank, I use a heat gun blowing hot air into the gas filler opening and a shop vac drawing air out of the other end via the hose inserted through the gas sender opening. I leave it run for twice the time it takes to appear dry inside.

Check your local radiator shops out too. Sometimes they will do fuel tanks. They boil the tanks clean and add the sealer.

Bill Hirsh sells a fuel tank sealer that comes in a kit with a cleaning solution, etching solution, and a tank sealer compound that is alcohol resistant. I believe that the Hirsh product is the only one on the market that claims to be alcohol resistant.. Very important with today's fuels.
I just finished the cleaning and sealing a tank for one of my projects.
