Gas tank rattle??

I topped of my 30 gas tank yesterday and now have a very serious rattle somewhere up under the dash, passenger side. Where can i find an illustration of how a gas tank is secured on a 1930 -31 model a???
Many thanks again for any suggestions, comments, words of wisdom, voices of experience, etc..

theres gas tank clamps, perhaps one is loose? choke rod gromit missing so now its choke rod on gas tank support?

if the rattle goes away as the gas is consumed down to about 3/4 tank, your float is hitting the tank top and the sound is transferring so it seems like its on the passenger side.

baffle in tank came loose, maybe the gas tank float arm is loose banging on side of tank, there are a bunch of gas tank clamps on the tank so I don't think one or even two being loose would make the tank rattle

Time to look at the gas gage assembly. If the spark arrester is still inplace chances are the float arm is misaligned. If you haven't replaced the float yet, this would be a good time to do that job. Bob

Also check the tightness of the nuts on the two radiator brace rods from the firewall to the radiator. If the nut is loose at the firewall bracket, the rod will rattle and vibrate like crazy and telegraph through the cowl to sound as if the problem is inside the gas tank. The nut may have coincidentally worked loose before you filled the tank.
"Pat in Santa Cruz" may be onto something with the gauge itself. Some people replace the cork or neoprene float with a metal floater, such as a Model B carb "drum" float, which fits through the gas tank gauge hole. Because it is metal, when the tank is full and the gauge arm bent too far upwards, the metal float will bounce against the top of the gas tank until the level drops.

Marshall,

I had one of the angle brackets on the top of the radiator break in half... the ones that the hood rods bolt to. The rattle drove me crazy! It sure sound like it was under the gas tank. It was so unexpected it took me two months to find it.

Where the hood rod attaches to the bracket on the firewall, my rivets are a little loose on the right bracket. I don't know how to tighten them and I don't think it's causing a rattle. I do however have a bad rattle from something under the car when I drive over tracks or bumps.
