The drain plug started leaking gas. I removed the plug and it looks like to me that the treads do not seal the plug, but rather the outside flange lip seals when tighten against the gas tank. If so,what do I use for a sealant? Or ?
Thanks

The tank is out of my '54 Ranch Wagon. I'll check tomorrow when I go down to the shop to see how the plug seals.

In the first photo the underside of the screw head looks slightly recessed, like it may have had a copper or other soft metal O-ring / crush washer at one time.

That does make sense because of the recess area and the threads don’t go all the way up.
Not sure if I can find a copper washer that size. The OD of the threaded part is 7/8”
Thanks

Cataloging calls for a 0A 9388 - Gasket (fuel tank drain)

Material not mentioned.

This PN is from the 1954/1955 MERC CHASSIS PARTS CATALOG. The ILL is marked 1954. The 1956-1959 MERC MPC ILL does not show it BUT TEXT shows the same PN for 1956.

Enter the PN on GIGGLE and you will find them.

Thanks everyone for your comments. I was able to locate the correct rubber washer on eBay. It worked perfectly.
Thanks for the diagram!
