Gas tank decision

Opinions please on whether I should pop for a new gas tank for my 36 pickup ($360 from MAC plus shipping).

or take it to ReNu and spend $300 to clean and seal it..?

Anyone have good or bad experience with the clean/seal process?

Yeah, just took the tank out and noticed a hole rusted thru at the filler neck, so that would be an extra repair charge.

So, New Tank wins!

I would buy a new one .I purchased a new one for my truck and I'm a happy camper.Go for it .Sounds like you will get more bang for your anyway.

I took my 47 merc tank,to tank re-nu,near jeanette pa.,and they quoted $225,and the other guy(laughing),said"more like $250,because it has a pickup tube.New tanks were about same price, but too much for me.I took it to Valley Radiator,in Wall,Pa.and had it cleaned, repaired,& sealed for about $125.

If you decide to buy a new tank shop around, prices veri a lot. also most reproduction tanks require a after market sending unit, more money, your original sender won't fit the repo tank. ask questions before buying.

I finally gave up on repairs and bit the bullet for a new one and new sending unit. Hopefully everything works right. Mine is a 35 pickup

If it was a good tank, I'd reseal it, but since you have a hole, get a new one.

You'll need a new sending unit anyway, and you can get them set up for Early Ford.

I have Tanks Inc tank in my coupe. It's 2 gallons bigger, with an sending unit set up for Early Ford. You'll need to decide if you're running 12 volts or 6 volts though. I would suggest 12.

As long as we're discussing tanks, are they all the same from 35-39 or are there differences precluding mixing and matching the years? The only difference I could foresee would be the necks. I've got a good '37 tank that I'd like to use in our '36 cabriolet.

Ours was loaded with bottom crud from 15 years of old gas and varnish.(47 Merc. convert.)
They wanted over $200.00 to boil it out and seal it. We bit the bullet
got a new tank and sender. No more worries or problems.
