Here is a neat gas station even though it has a brand X sign on top of it.

Interesting, a Chevrolet sign on top of the building and a Ford sign, just inside the door.
Lots of interesting advertising.

The car inside looks to be mid to late 20s & not new.

In 1929 my father taught all 8 grades at a one room school for $600 per year. An annual wage of $60,000 is not unusual today -- so gas should cost $22.00 per gal. We must be living in the good old days!!

22 cents per gallon While traveling through Detroit in the summer of '71, I needed to "top up" before heading back to Niagara. Detroit gas stations were in a gas war! Filled 'er up for 22 cents a gallon!
Can't see this ever happening again.

We were selling gas in 1987-1989 for .99/gallon. I think wages had risen quite a bit by then compared to the 20's or the 70's.

The Good Gulf was only 18 CENTS a gallon in this photo showing a Gulf merchandising center. Can anyone date this pump or tell us more about it?

What a beautiful set-up ! Who wouldn't like to have that ?
I have one of those pump-mounted price signs.

This is The Parkhurst Auto Co., Webster City, Iowa. We found out quite a bit about them when we did a detailed post about them on theoldmotor.com It turns out this is were the P&L Model T valve adjustors were manufactured.

I like the valve adjuster idea! Sounds similar to the latest new car and motorcycle technology whereby valve lash is set by adding/removing shims of varying thicknesses. Those Iowa "hicks" were way ahead of their time!

You might change your view if you had ever worked on a Jaguar!

$60,000 is a huge amount of money!

It certainly is! The average wage for a primary school teacher wit 6 years experience in Ontario, Canada is from $42,258 to $73,472 in 2012. The Canadian dollar is worth $.98 US dollars today.

I am about 10 miles from the GM plant in Oshawa, Ontario. It is not unusual for an hourly employee to make $100,000 in a year with a respectable ammount of overtime added in.
