Gas smell

When I bought my PU several years ago, the cause was a shut-off valve that didn't quite shut off, coupled with that a carb that leaked like a sieve. Replaced both, problem solved.

Now it only smells like gasoline in the garage when I do something stupid like trying to drain 7 gallons of gas into a 5 gallon container.

Visually go through the who system from the gas cap, under the gas tank, through the fire wall to the carburetor and the carburetor to see if any parts are wet with gas or even a tiny bit moist. Also check the gas gauge on the front of the tank as they can weep a bit also if the gaskets are old. Just investigate with a good flashlight and you will find the source.

Get under the dashboard and check around the rivets for the steering wheel bracket and the GAV bracket. These can weep, and are a pain to fix. Hope that's not your problem.

First make sure the shut off switch works and no leaks, then consider turning off the fuel prior to going into the garage. This leaves maybe 40 seconds for you to drive in, the engine will starve for gas and shut off with no fuel in the system beyond the shut off switch.

If the smell is greater inside the car you might also want to check to be sure the fuel isn't leaking around the fuel level indicator on the dash. You may need to install a new fuel gauge gasket. Be sure to lower the fuel level below the the gauge opening before attempting the replacement.

It's possible that your fuel cut-off is leaking just enough that you smell fuel. You might consider installing a secondary fuel cut-off.

The previous owner of my car installed a secondary screw-in type fuel cut-off. The factory fuel cut-off leaks a little even when closed. I leave the factory one open and use the secondary one instead. I have no other leaks anywhere around the tank or the carburetor.
