I need to have someone install the new fuel line in a 47 merc. The remains of the old one,was inside the frame rail.Is this the preferred routing, and how would it have been fastened to the inside?I thought about plastic line clamps, somehow fastened inside the frame rail.

i put a new one in my 36 pickup, i got it at G&C Ford. i used a original type,
and installed it the same way it came form the factory, also i cut the new one in half
to install a inline fuel filter. it made the installation easier

yes---very easy to install yes it goes down on the drivers side frame rail...there were factory clamps to hold it in place but often become worn....I used some sheet metal screws and rubber holders from orchard supply...worked great!

gumpy, did you put it inside the hollow frame rail,or on the outside, that faces the center of the car.My old one was INSIDE the walls of the frame rail. thanks

My 47 still has the original fuel line as originally installed. It runs inside of the driver's side frame rail.

on drivers inside frame rail with clips.

AL===the fuel line goes inside the frame rail....at sacramento vintage ford they sell copper tubing which actually unrolls and goes all the way to the fuel tank....I personally tried the clamp type as pictured above and they would not stay in place so mine had to be secured.....you want correct flow and no pinch in your line...the reason it runs down the driver side of the car..in my case 1940 coupe is the single exhaust runs down the passenger side...the exhaust is quite a heat source...there should be some pictures on the internet if you check on google...if I can help --please let me know......regards gump

you can buy the steel tube in bulk roll or buy line kit from repo places, if you're worried about the line moving I used stainless clamps and drilled holes on my '54 panel.

I have used both adel type clamps (a steel/aluminum clamp that is rubber lined inside) or nylon clamps fastened to the frame rail by either sheet metal screws or by drilling and tapping for either a #8 or #10 machine screw. But any type of clamp that will hold the tubing will do.

There should be enough holes in the properly mount the clamps. They don't have to be too close together.
