Another question. So the fella I bought this car from put a carter elec fuel pump on it . Rotary vane 6-8 psi with no regulator. Causing some problems like over riding needle and putting gas in the crankcase. Took the pump off tonight not sure what I'm going to do yet maybe small inline or stick with the rebuilt mechanical. My question is the line from the elec pump up to the flexible line at the motor has a 1/8 line made on the 1/4 inch line not hooked to anything. Ends at the pump and about 3 inches from the flex line. Is this just a piece of junk line he put on or did they actually have a return line?
Thanks Bob

The carter canister pumps are life timers, I would buy a Holley brand regulator to put inline rather than remove it.
Holley is about the only regulator that will last as long as those good old carter canister pumps.

I put a holley regulator on it first. Set it at 2 psi with the mechanical pump but when I turn on the elec the regulator starts pulsating between 1 and 5 psi. Wondering if that pump is too much for that 0 to 4 psi regulator.

Are you running both pumps at the same time?
That would probably cause it to pulsate and over power it.

Generally, the electric fuel pump is run only for a second Before starting in order to top up the float.
There is no need to run both pumps all the time and/or while running unless the mechanical is so weak that you have trouble maintaining speed or pulling hills.
Most people instal an electric just to aid in starting/top up.
