Gas gauge gaskets

Does it matter much what material gaskets I use in the gas gauge? I need to replace the existing cork float so I'm going to need some new gaskets too. I saw there are neoprene gaskets that sound better than cork ones. I was going to use a neoprene float also.

I use the modern float, but have found that the neoprene gaskets tend to slip and squeeze into the center, then leak. I prefer the cork gaskets, which worked fine for 50 years or more, and still work fine. A thin film of gasket sealer helps.

Absolutley use the cork gaskets- not the neoprene ones. I have repaired hundreds of gas gauges, so save your self a lot of trouble and use the THIN cork ones made by A&L parts and sold in your better parts stores.
