Gas fumes

I have a 1953 Merc. in a pickup. It is stock, with holley 94,with a chevy dist. Runs great but has strong gas fumes at idle. Is just normal for a older flathead with holley94? Thanks Mike

are you talking fuel smell or exhaust fumes coming from the engine, older cars use a draft tube to remove engine vapors when moving, it doesnt work at idle and the fumes can drift up and into the cab, with an older and tired engine it can get pretty strong
