Gas cap leaks

34 coupe, do all gas caps leak when accelerating?
I believe they need to be vented, so are they supposed to leak all over the paint?
Thanks Terry

That cap is nothing like an original cap. Wrong configuration top and it looks like no knurling around the edge. Would never pass muster at a car show. I have several original caps, vented or unvented. No dents or dings and good gaskets. Just need a good polishing. $40.00 + $9.00 shipping

32-35 use a NON-vented cap. The tank vent is part of the hydro-static fuel and level sender.

So how do I tell if mine is a vented cap or just a worn out gasket? I have not seen any "gaskets only" for sale on any of the parts dealers.

The one I got from Tanks does have fluting around the edge.

From what I can tell from the pictures, upon further inspection, there is fluting around the edge, but it is not the large style fluting as is on original Ford caps.

Yours does not appear to be vented as there is no visible vent hole on the underside. I MIGHT have a couple of extra gaskets I had made years ago. I'll try and check tomorrow.

Also, yours is not a stock Ford cap. Stock caps do not have the flattened edge around the top but are a gentle dome shape all around. As noted above, I have several original caps with good washers.

Since it's non vented, I'll head to the hardware store for just the gasket.
The old one is to brittle to flip over.
Thanks all for the advice.

Success, found gasket at napa on a new stant cap.
Installed it on top of old gasket. No more leaks. Thanks again
