With the maybe 100 lb I took out of the front of the car with tube headers, aluminum heads, manifold, alternator, and radiator, the stance was definitely not the traditional hot rod rake I was looking for. With big/little tires it sat about level.
I replaced the tired and worn 37" front spring on my '41 with a 36.5" reverse eye Posies spring. Had to fab 2.75" shackles. Even If I could have gotten the 2.25" stock shackles back on that shorter spring, the shackles would have been much too flat, resulting in a very hard ride and high lateral stress on the spring perches.
With a fresh spring in place of the tired old spring, I got .5" drop instead of the expected 1.5" drop. Next I will remove the 3rd leaf; that should get me another .5" or so, which will be close enough. I wish someone made a 2" drop axle. 4" is just way too much.[/QUOTE
The 4" drop is total drop. Since your axle already has some drop, the net drop is more like 2" when compared to the stock axle.
