Fuel shut-off/leaking carb

My original fuel shut-off on my '30 tudor is now leaking thru, and my carb is dripping probably a drop every 5 minutes or so. I will be replacing the shut-off, but shouldn't the carb float needle give a tight shut-off...at least most of the time???? What is the preferred carb float valve? I forgot what type I installed when I rebuilt it. Thanks

I use the original type float valve and have for years; Your float level may be a little high or you may be leaking at the bottom of the main or cap jet if the gas is coming out of the small drain hole in the bottom of the throat.

I also use an original needle and seat. After I lapped them together using toothpaste, my leak quit. I also lapped the shutoff valve with toothpaste, and it also sealed up nicely.

Keep an eye on it. The modern fuels will eat on that rubber tip.

After experimenting with the various styles, I went back to the original valve, making sure the float had no wear dimple to catch it.

No more leaks.

I bought the new float valve sold at Brattons. It leaked a little at first but no leaks since. It's been about 2 months. I still keep a small bucket under the carburetor just in case.
