I don;t have a gasket between my engine block and the fuel pump stand Is it just a ring or is it supposed to have two ears with bolt holes.
Thanks

You can make a nice one with a piece of thin gasket material and a small ballpein hammer. Just lay the material over the base and use the round head of the hammer to "outline" the gasket with gentle thumps. Perfect gasket most every time.

yea Cecil and so much squezzes out when you tighten it up the bottom of the stand gets warped. Put a straight edge on a few of them and see the gap in the center. Also caused be installing the gasket after the baffel tube is dropped in the hole. The gasket goes on the manifold first then the baffel is dropped in.The slight flare on the top of the baffel tube must fit in the recess on the bottom of the stand and it cant do that if thegasket is laid on after the tube is dropped in,make any sense to you. Most are installed wrong. Thats why so many of them are warped and leak. ken ct. I'll explain better at Charlotte for you stop by. :)

Ken, I see now what you mean. I made a gasket today and installed it, I will have to take it apart and pull the baffle up and install it correctly. Thanks for the info, I didn;t know that.

If you can when you take it off try to file the bottom of the stand so its more flat,no hump in the middle. Its easier if you take the pipe out of the bottom of it,you can JB weld it back in after you file it down. Just dont wipe out the shallow recess for the flange on the tube. ken ct. Glad you understood what i was talking about. Good luck. ;)

Yes, ken, I know what you are saying, but if you don't over tighten it, the RTV will set up and fill any gaps since there is no pressure there. If you use Permatex Right Stuff, you won't need the nuts on after it sets up. That stuff is really strong. I wouldn't use it on that part. See you in Charlotte.

Sorry ken, but it totally went over my head, could you explain that again. I installed the gasket, Then the tube fits into the bottom of the stand and as I lower the tube I guide the tube over the rod and bolt it on. Coolcoupe

Its sounds like your missing the large tube, its the same size as the hole in the intake manifold, and slides into the hole that in the block. This tube is missing on alot of flatheads, over the years, but it is important to have.....Ed

34 5W has it right.Baffle tube is like 2" diam and about 7" long thats the one that goes in after the gasket is on the manifold. Not the one that goes up into the stand that one is about 1" diam. hope this is clear. ken ct.
