fuel pump rebuilding

When replacing the diaphram in a flathead fuel pump do you use gasket sealer on the diaphram? If so on one or both sides? Thanks.

NO,NO,NO. nothing. Ken ct. Also be careful where you buy your diafp. All are made in China and some of them have OS screw hole patterns. They are unuseable and some have the stem slot not long enough for the hooked lever to pass through. ken ct.

You probably already know this, but dont tighten the screws until you have the lever fully depressed, to allow the diaphram room to move.

VERY GOOD ADVICE!!!!

I wish they would put this in the instructions.

I rebuilt a fuel pump on one of my other cars and had a problem where the fuel pressure would go way up until the carb would flood over. I had the SOB off and on several times and could not find out what was wrong. I finally found in one of my old Motors Manuals where under Fuel Pump Problems they listed the cause of too high of fuel pump pressure may be because the diaphragm was too tight. Even the Master Factory Manual for the car did not talk about this.

I would also dress both castings so they are flat. This will help to get a good seal.

General y when fitting a Diaphragm you put all the screws in lightly then compress the arm so so the Di is stretched then tighten.over pressure can also be caused by the large spring having to much strong ,
